The Masonic grant will help fund a Worthing Churches Homeless Projects outreach project worker who supports clients with basic living skills, such as setting up housing benefit claims, dealing with utility bills and many other issues which might in some especially difficult cases, include food shopping and cleaning.

Of the 47 vulnerable clients that the outreach worker has worked with in the last year, 95 per cent have sustained their tenancies.

The grant comes through the Masonic Charitable Foundation which is funded by Freemasons and their families from across England and Wales.

Sue Stevens, PR and fundraising manager for Worthing Churches Homeless Projects, said: “We are very grateful to Sussex Freemasons for their generous grant. Without donations like this we wouldn’t be able to continue. Last year we helped 1,100 people find a home or stay in the one they have. I’m afraid this year will be no less busy.”

Bob Ison from Worthing Freemasons said: “We are very pleased to be able to support the Worthing Churches Homeless Project, which does really excellent work helping some of the most vulnerable people in our community get off the streets and keep a roof over their heads.”
