VOLUNTEERS who dug over an overgrown grass verge to create a wildflower meadow have been enjoying the fruits of their labour.
The Big Dig in April saw supporters of Beeding in Bloom working hard to clear the piece of ground in Manor Road, Upper Beeding.
Pat Nightingale said: “They sowed seeds and planted wildflowers and we now have this colourful flowery meadow for all to enjoy.”
Work parties had to dig out the coarse grass by hand, after it thwarted their attempts to establish the meadow last year.
The grass swamped the flowers and the only way to deal with the problem, without using weed killer, was to get stuck in.
Residents young and old joined in and the result was a glorious spread of colourful flowers.
Pat admitted the recent hot weather meant the meadow was now past its best, but there are still plants there for the wildlife and residents to enjoy.
