Man charged with car theft after a high-speed chase starting in Steyning

A 25-year-old man has been charged with theft of a car after stealing the vechile from Steyning and driving it the wrong way down the A27 in a chase across West Sussex on Saturday night, June 8.

Matthew Hall, 25 from Beach Road, Southsea, Hampshire has been charged with burglary, dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

A spokeswoman from Sussex Police, said: ‘Just after 8pm, car keys for a VW Passat were stolen from Steyning Sports Centre in Horsham, and the offenders fled in the car. The car was eventually stopped in Hampshire near Emsworth by Hampshire Police officers.

‘One suspect is still outstanding and police are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the second suspect.”

He appeared at Worthing Magistrates Court on Monday, June, 10 and has been remanded in custody to appear before Chichester Crown Court on August, 30.
