The Meals on Wheels Christmas menu is now available to order.

Existing customers who will receive their Christmas lunch on December 17 will be given a free mince pie while current, regular clients in the Worthing area - who receive hot meals every day - will be able to enjoy a free festive-style cupcake on Christmas Day.

These will be supplied by the Meals on Wheels food providers Apetito and Nibbles.

West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services Peter Catchpole said: “Meals on Wheels provides a vital service to our community.

“As well as delivering tasty and nutritional meals, the drivers also provide a ‘safe and well’ check to ensure those who use the service are in good health, which is very reassuring for families and friends.

“And with Christmas rapidly approaching, it is important to start thinking about meals for the festive season now.”

Festive meals available include honey roast turkey or mushroom and ale pie, with Christmas pudding for Christmas Day.

Beef Bordelaise and a Black Forest sponge is on the menu for Boxing Day with Festive Pork and Mincemeat and Apple Crumble for New Year’s Day.

A vegetarian option of mushroom and ale pie is also available.

The meals can be ordered as part of a normal weekly menu and can be delivered frozen.

A special Taster Pack is also available to new Meals on Wheels customers, which provides a five-day selection of meals and desserts for £15. Hot or frozen two-course meals normally cost £4 (weekdays) or £4.20.

All menus are dietician approved and specific dietary requirements (including diabetic, gluten free and pureed meals) can be catered for.

Anyone can order from the service and an assessment from a GP or hospital isn’t needed to apply for Meals on Wheel. For further information contact your local Meals on Wheels kitchen or visit the Meals on Wheels web pages at www.westsussex.gov.uk
