Winners of the 2016 Littlehampton Carnival Queen and Princess competition have been announced.

Eve Edwards is carnival queen, with Hannah Unsted, Lucie Feltham and Jess Smith as the princesses.

Usually, there are only two princesses but the results were so close, the Littlehampton Carnival Association did not one girl to miss out.

Eve, 15, of Harwood Road, Littlehampton, was a princess last year and is excited to be the queen.

“It has been so brilliant, I wanted to do it again,” she said.

“I was very surprised to be chosen because all the girls were so impressive.”

She said being in the carnival procession last year had been a little overwhelming at first.

“But when you see the people you recognise and everyone waving, you can’t help but smile,” she added.

“I love it and I am so looking forward to doing it all again.”

Jess, 14, of Griffin Crescent, Littlehampton, said she ‘felt like giving it a go’.

“I go down to the carnival with my friends every year and I thought this year, I would try to be in it,” she added.

“I am looking forward to it, especially dressing up. I love it.”

Hannah, 14, of Timberleys, Littlehampton, is also looking forward to wearing the beautiful gowns the girls are given.

She added: “I thought about doing it when I was little then Eve told me all about it last year and talked me into applying.

“I can’t wait, I just want to get stuck in!”

Lucie, 15, of Sandfield Avenue, Littlehampton, enjoys singing and drama, and is looking forward to all the events, including the carnival and bonfire procession.

This is the second time she has entered the competition and is delighted to have been chosen.

Eve, Jess and Hannah are students at The Littlehampton Academy, while Lucie attends The Education Centre in Haywards Heath.
