THE SHIP HOTEL in North Street Chichester has been awarded a Rosette by the AA
for culinary excellence and the quality of its food.
This makes The Ship the only restaurant within the city walls to hold the coveted symbol that is given to ‘excellent local restaurants serving food prepared with care, understanding and skill, using good quality ingredients’.
General manager Patrick Burfield said: “I am particularly delighted with this award as we have been steadily raising our standards over the last couple of years , it is superb recognition for the hard work of Jon Lander, our head chef, and his dedicated young brigade and is a first in the hotel’s history.
“The overnight inspection by the AA came as a complete surprise to us which makes the recognition even greater - less than ten per cent of restaurants in the UK hold a rosette.”
The independently owned hotel also is now planningan extensive room refurbishment programme and has planning permission for a further 26 bedrooms.
Patrick Burfield added: “As everyone always says, it’s a team effort but we have 40 staff here who are genuinely dedicated to making The Ship work at all levels.
“We are also very lucky to have understanding owners who are very supportive of our aims.”
