A Horsham woman has had her head shaved for charity in solidarity with her mum, who has had chemotherapy for cancer.

Maria Moulding, of Roffey, is hoping to raise £1,000 for St Catherine’s Hospice after having her hair shaved off.

She was motivated to do the challenge because her mum Diane, is currently suffering a second bout of cancer.

Maria, 41, said: “Mum’s just finished a course of chemo and we are waiting for the results. She has beat it once before, so I’m sure she will again.

“It’s was her having cancer for the second time (that made me want to do the headshave).

“She got upset when the hair came out so this is something I can do to support her.”

Last month Maria headed to Rusper Stores to have it done. As well as sponsorship she hopes to raise about £200 by selling her hair.

She said: “My hair was 20 inches. I’ve just occasionally had it trimmed to get rid of the dead ends. I’d been growing it for 18 months. I was going to get it cut, but then I thought I may as well go the whole way. I had it long for the majority of my life.”

St Catherine’s Hospice, based in Crawley, is a charity dedicated to providing specialised end of life care and support to people, their families, friends and carers.

There is still time to support Maria in her fundraising To donate go to ww.justgiving.com/Maria-Moulding
