A CONTROVERSIAL rise in town centre car parking fees has come into force today (Monday March 5).

Horsham District Council (HDC) extended the date to implement new costs after campaigners spotted errors in pricing.

Clarification was released by the council which has now launched its official complaints procedure following its responses to protester Susan Michaelis, who brands the ‘extortionate’ rise ‘highway robbery’.

Some of the car parks hardest hit are Swan Walk, Piries Place, Denne Road and Park House (council offices) where the cost of three hours parking has rocketed by 25 per cent.

However, at Hurst Road car park prices have soared by 50 per cent, from £1 to £1.50.
