Members of the Collyer’s community recently ran a stand in the Horsham Carfax to promote homestay family opportunities.

Collyer’s is actively looking for homestays to house a growing number of international students, who travel from across the world to study at one of the leading Sixth Form Colleges in the south east.

Collyer’s admissions manager, Frances Boulter explained: “Homestay families look after students between the ages of 16-19, who have travelled to Horsham to study at the college.

“In addition to the financial benefits, our experience is that families have found the experience to be an extremely rewarding one.

“It is a unique way to get a wonderful insight into another culture.”

The information stand in the Carfax was supported by Collyer’s Frances Boulter and Hazel Dumbleton and current international students Emily Chung, Nori Hung and Choey Cao. Collyer’s also welcomed invaluable support form current homestay families in the shape of Margaret Kubiak, Alison Martin, Ann Smart, Margaret Horan, Libby Risby and Christine Stallibrass.

Frances Boulter added: “Huge thanks to everyone for helping get the message out today. This really is a wonderful opportunity for a Horsham family. Many of our previous international students have kept in touch with their host families and there have even been visits and get-togethers both here and in the home country.”

James Gordon, a teacher at Collyer’s whose family have hosted a number of international students, said: “We found being a homestay family a massively rewarding experience. I would certainly recommend it.”

Frances Boulter concluded: “We are advising people who are interested in hosting our international students in the future to call our main reception on: 01403 210822 for further details.”

The College of Richard Collyer is a sixth form based in Horsham with approximately 1,600 full-time 16-18 students. As a top performing institution, Collyer’s has Beacon status and enjoys an “Outstanding” rating from Ofsted.
