Leading Horsham companies and small firms flocked to one of the area’s biggest business events last week.

Now in its 11th year and organised by Horsham District Council, Microbiz is billed as the premier event from small businesses in the Horsham district, offering them a chance to gain information and network.

More than 40 stalls enticed hundreds of visitors through the doors of Drill Hall in Denne Road on Saturday March 9

Roger Paterson (Con, Pulborough and Coldwaltham), Horsham District Council cabinet member for the local economy, said: “I think it’s inspiring to see so many small businesses committed to working together, taking on new business skills and being optimistic about the local economy.

“It’s really helpful for them, they get good networking and make some really good potential clients and they get a feel for what other people are doing.”

Stall holders included Spofforths Chartered Accountants, Chichester College, Britweb, and Horsham Training Centre , while East Street’s Beeches Buffet provided refreshments on the day.

Visiting businesses also had the pick of eight informative seminars on subjects ranging from dealing with HMRC, exporting, Twitter tips, and tips for start-ups and growing businesses.

John Walker, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, said he had been coming to Microbiz almost every year, and encouraged all his members in the area to attend

“It’s a very important initiative for the area,” he said.

“The South East of England is very much a powerhouse in the UK.”

More generally he said that the banks needed to do more to lend to small businesses in the South East, and that he would like to see more apprenticeships for young people.

West Sussex County Times was a proud sponsor and exhibitor and Microbiz attendees can still take advantage of special advertising rates by calling Greig McGarva on 01403 751239 or emailing greig.mcgarva@sussexnewspapers.co.uk
