Worthing care workers take centre stage

Outstanding care workers from Worthing took centre stage at the annual West Sussex Care Accolades.

The awards recognise the hard work and dedication of people in a wide variety of jobs in adult social care, including dementia care and caring for people in their own homes.

Rosemary Pavoni, chairman of West Sussex Partners in Care, said: “The standard of entries this year was so high, again. It was a really tough job to decide the winners, as every single one of them was worthy of recognition and praise.”

Donna Brodrick from Kardinal Healthcare in Worthing won the Chair’s Award.

Sarah Beaney from Amberley Lodge Care Home in Worthing won the Dementia Care Award.

Julia Williams from Melrose Care Home in Worthing won the End of Life Award.

Gemma Wetherill from Egalite Care in Worthing won the Unsung Hero Award.

Other winners included Gillian Wicks from Inter County Care Services in Rustington, who received the Registered Manager Award.

Winners were presented with a trophy and shopping vouchers at a ceremony at Arundel Wetland Centre.

The awards, now in their seventh year, are organised by West Sussex Partners in Care and are supported by West Sussex County Council.

The ten winners were all nominated by their colleagues, with glowing and often moving testimonials from service users and their families.

Peter Catchpole, West Sussex County Council’s cabinet member for adults social care and health, said: “It has been a privilege to hear the outstanding stories of care in our county.

“Our care workers really are heroes. These awards showcase great care. I hope these stories will inspire others to think about a career in care.

“I was humbled by the passion of all the care workers, and again would like to thank them for their hard work.”
