A woman pleaded guilty to saying she hoped a stranger’s two-year-old son died a long and painful death.

Virginia Mary Bailey, of Bentswood Road, Haywards Heath, admitted directing the abuse at Samantha Dyke whilst shopping in Iceland on Haywards Road, Haywards Heath.

She also admitted a public order offence for unruly behaviour in the store, and has been given a deferred sentence.

The 49-year-old had been accused of common assault after allegedly striking the child with her walking frame in the incident on June 26, but the charge was dropped after a witness failed to appear at court.
