Shooting Star Chase is challenging all daredevils to withstand the heat for life-limited babies, children and young people – by walking on hot coals up to 1200°F.
The first event of its kind for the children’s hospice charity, the Fire walk takes place at Catteshall Manor in Godalming on Saturday 25th October and aims to raise £15,000.
Anyone can take part in this unique event, with no training required. Participants will be guided through the once in a lifetime opportunity by Guinness World Record holder Scott Bell, receiving all the training they need on the day.
Patrycja Wilczynska, whose daughter Blanka sadly died in 2011, says she is tackling the Fire walk in memory of her daughter the ‘amazing charity’ who have supported her family: “I’m challenging myself to walk on hot coals to honour and support Shooting Star Chase, who surrounded my daughter and family with the best possible care during a truly difficult journey.
“As a parent of a child with a life-limiting condition, you wake up every day wishing you could find a cure but this amazing charity made it easier to bare and helped us find meaning in the most precious moments. “
Karen Sugarman, Director of Fundraising at Shooting Star Chase said: “Shooting Star Chase needs £9.5million a year to maintain our current level of care and so our challenge events are so important in raising those much needed funds. We’re hoping this wonderfully wacky event, held a few miles from Christopher’s, our children’s hospice in Guildford, will get local people signing up to help.
“I’m taking up the challenge of the Fire walk myself and really will be facing one of my fears. But I am reminded of the bravery of the babies, children, young people and their families we care for at Shooting Star Chase, and what they have to endure everyday both physically and emotionally. I know that by doing one small challenge, I can make a difference.”
Fearless fire walkers are asked to raise a minimum of £150 and will receive a Shooting Star Chase t-shirt, a commemorative certificate and a photo keepsake - as well as refreshments and freshly baked pizzas from the Wood Fired Pizza Company.
