FIERY Ginger has proved it is hot stuff by winning an international gold award.
Chris and Rosemary Knox from Mile Oak Farm, Portslade, are over the moon after beating off international challengers to win the annual British Bottlers’ Institute contest.
“It’s a double celebration for us at Gran Stead’s Ginger Co, as this year marks ten years since Rosemary and I took over the business from my parents and moved production to Mile Oak Farm,” said Chris.
“This award means so much to us. We’ve come a long way since my father Len bottled the drinks in the family kitchen while Mum stuck on the labels in the lounge.”
The spicy ginger drink, Gran Stead’s Fiery Ginger, is prepared by hand at the farm, in Mile Oak Road.
The company supplies around 700 stockists across the UK and exports to several countries, including Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus and the Netherlands.
Chris and Rosemary, who produce five alcohol-free drinks at their farm, are now looking forward to the BBI Gala Awards dinner at Vintners’ Hall in London on October 23.
The drinks have a nostalgic feel and were inspired by an original recipe created by ‘Granny’ Stead in the 19th century.
