MORE than 2,000 women will descend on Steyne Gardens on Sunday for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Last year, women in Worthing helped raise £150,000 for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work. This time round the charity hopes the 2,300 who have entered will hit a fundraising target of £180,000

We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life events in Worthing.

Chris Woods, event manager for Race for Life in the South, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life events in Worthing. Race for Life is not competitive and it’s not about being fit or fast. You can walk, jog, or run around the course if you like. Because these events are all about the feel-good factor that comes from being part of the ‘pink army’ as thousands of women come together to defeat cancer.”

Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5km events which raises millions of pounds every year.

Women can boost their contribution to Cancer Research UK’s work by doing a ‘wardrobe work-out’ before their event. The charity is encouraging them to sort out and bag up hidden treasures such as quality clothes, books and accessories they no longer use and take them to the Donation Station at Race for Life.

Each bag of goods could help raise up to £25 for ground-breaking research, even more with Gift Aid.

Every participant receives a donation bag, along with a Gift Aid form, as part of their Race for Life entry pack. By completing the form and popping it in their bag, women can boost the value of their donation by an extra 25 per cent.

The Herald will be there on the day taking pictures and we would love for those taking part to send us a few lines telling us why the event is important to you, your finish times and how much you have raised to news@worthingherald.co.uk
