WEST Chiltington residents presented retired Cherilyn shop owners with gifts to show them how much they mean to the village.
Steve and Lynda Denham have been running the Cherilyn newsagents in Haglands Lane for the past 22 years and have now decided to retire. The volunteers who run the village hall organised a collection on behalf of residents.
They collected over £400 which was given to Lynda and Steve when they attended the regular Hall Members Committee meeting, on Monday December 5.
Duncan MacFarlane, chairman of trustees, said: “Their generosity of spirit and willingness to get involved provides an inspiration to us all.
“There are few shopkeepers anywhere in the country who have willingly provided so much support in their community for so long.
“We wish them well and much joy in their retirement.”
The trustees of the village hall presented Steve and Lynda with a large bouquet of flowers, the cheque and a large pile of cards collected from the community.
