The band has its roots in the mid-19th century, based on military bands of the period. It is now a mixed band of brass and woodwind instrument players and prides itself on being a friendly group of both young and older players. Currently, there are around 30 playing members of mixed ability.

Michelle said: “We encourage all our members to enjoy playing music together, whatever standard they are.

“We play a wide range of music, ranging from traditional marches and brass band music to popular music such as pieces by Abba and Queen. We aim to find something to appeal to everyone. We also play music of varying levels of difficulty to satisfy all levels of ability.”

During the year, the band plays at many types of event, such as fêtes, concerts, weddings, Christmas fairs and open days. It is one of the few bands which is still a marching band and attends such events as Remembrance Sunday and the Gold Cup Polo tournament at Midhurst.
