The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has called off the strike action which was planned for Saturday night (October 19).
The action was called off after the talks between the union and the Government over pensions made progress.
A spokesman for the FBU said: “This is a national dispute and not one we are in a position to resolve locally so we remain cautious.
“However, talks between the Government and FBU in the last few days have made enough progress for the union to call off Saturday’s strike action.
“West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has contingency plans in place to maintain our services in the event of staff shortages, including industrial action, but we will now resume normal working and hope that further meetings between both parties can reach a final agreement.”
