Petworth’s popular Fete in the Park is returning after a year of uncertainty.

The future of the fete, organised by the Petworth and District Community Association (P&DCA) seemed in doubt when it did not take place this summer.

A popular fixture on the Petworth calendar in July for a decade, it was clear in 2015 its future hung in the balance when chairman of the P&DCA Tony Sneller said: “The association is taking this landmark year to review whether we should continue to put on this event.”

More than 3000 people flocked through the gates of Petworth Park in July 2015 to enjoy one of the most successful ever Fetes in the Park. But Mr Sneller said it all came at a price to the small organising band.

Then in April this year P&DCA member John Riddell said a date had been pencilled for 2017 but he warned: “to make this happen we need fresh involvement.”

Now, following a debate at its annual meeting, chairman of the P&DCA Tony Sneller has confirmed it will go ahead on Saturday, July 8, 2017 in Petworth Park with the support of the National Trust at Petworth House.

He said: “After ten years and a well-earned break, the Fete in the Park is reborn. We look forward to working closely with our colleagues from Petworth House and we are grateful to the new willing volunteers who have come forward, and made our decision possible. With the addition of their fresh ideas and enthusiasm the organising team will build on past experience to again hold this wonderful event that has something for everyone, brings together the whole community and welcomes visitors from afar. So, if you can help us in any way, we’d love to hear from you.”

P&DCA are holding regular meetings to plan the event. For more details or to get involved, email feteinthepark@gmail.com or speak to Tony Sneller on 07860 186847. There will be updates on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
