On Thursday, February 16, parents and children from the Littlehampton school met to take part in ‘The Big Walk In’.

Everyone was asked to wear a favourite hat, and, as the school has recently had a campaign about ‘Be Bright Be Seen’ which encourages youngsters to wear colourful accessories to help with road safety, lots of children brought along some particularly dazzling headgear.

This term the walk started along Clun Road and processed over Arundel Road, along Cornwall Road and finally caught up with our lovely crossing patrol lady at the junction of Queen Street and York Road.

Those who took part said that the trip is always good fun, as everyone gets to chat to people they do not always meet on the way to school.

This year, The Big Walk In even had a kind mum pushing a son with a broken leg in his wheel chair.

Parents were really helpful getting everyone across some busy roads.

The children were met on arrival, by cheering members of staff, who could not get away to join in.

Milk and cereal bars were waiting as a treat before the school day formally began.

Sue Bingham, who coordinates the walk as part of the school’s Travel Plan, said that she hoped it raised the profile of coming to school without having to resort to a car for the whole journey.

She was also very pleased with her own hat.
