A Crawley Borough Council member who went to school with the woman who died in a gas explosion has paid tribute to her.
Cllr Marion Ayling was in the same class at Pound Hill Junior School as Maria Woodhead, who died after what is believed to be a gas canister or boiler exploded in her home in Banks Road, Pound Hill.
Cllr Ayling (Lab, Bewbush) and Maria made contact with each other a few months ago via Facebook.
She said: “I was sad to hear what happened to her. What a terrible thing to happen to someone so young.
“It makes you think it could happen to you.”
