The long-empty unit was previously home to the Somerfield supermarket.

“The unit is perfect and it will make more people come into the centre,” said marketing coordinator Lauren Bullen.

Prospective members will be able to join the gym for £20 a month, with no contract.

A 24-hour Facebook competition to win a year’s free membership was won by Emma Bullock.

The first 100 people to sign up will receive a ‘VIP membership’, including a lifetime membership fee freeze, special welcome pack and merchandise.
