More than 100 colleagues at Everyone Active cycled 115km from London to Chichester in a bid to raise £10,000 for charity, at the same time as promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
The team got in the saddle on Thursday, September 15, to raise money for two national charities, Anthony Nolan and the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The route took them past a number of Everyone Active leisure centres in hope of inspiring more people to get active.
The team left at 9am from Wellington Arch in London, and cycled more than 100km before entering the city’s walls to cross the finish line at Westgate Leisure Centre. Everyone Active’s Chichester team were victorious on the day, with Mike Cooper, gym manager at Westgate Leisure Centre, Jason Davis, general manager at Bourne Leisure Centre and Ben Polhill, sports development manager being the first to cross the line in just over five hours.
With each cyclists asked to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship, Everyone Active is expecting the final amount to reach £10,000.
The event kick started Everyone Active’s new partnership with JDRF, which provides support for those with type 1 diabetes. It also sees the sports and leisure provider build on the £120k it has already raised for its chosen charity, Anthony Nolan, which works to save the lives of people with blood disorders and blood cancer.
Duncan Jefford, Regional Director at Everyone Active and race organiser, said: “I’m delighted that so many colleagues came together to support two fantastic causes. Health and wellbeing at the heart of what we do, and I hope the dedication and enthusiasm showed by the team will encourage more people to get active.
“The ride was very challenging, but everyone trained really hard to ensure they put their best performance in on the day. There were a lot of happy faces when we cross the finish line in Chichester.”
Everyone Active took over the management of Chichester District Council’s sports and leisure facilities in May 2015, and since then the two have has worked in partnership to deliver a number of activities.
In July, Everyone Active hosted Chichester’s tenth annual triathlon, which saw record numbers of competitors turn out. It also recently organised the city’s Get Active Festival which treated residents to a day of free fun and activities. The two organisations are also working together to deliver a £1.5m refurbishment of Westgate Leisure Centre, which is due to be unveiled in November.
