CROSSING the Channel proves to be an educational experience for Rotarians.

Four Rotarians from Steyning and Henfield Rotary Club; current President Denis Cummings, and past Presidents Dr John Dibb, Tom Nutley, and Jerry Stace, travelled to Calais this month to meet and greet fellow French Rotary members.

Rotarians of Calais Risban Club and President Fernand Soupey were ‘hugely welcoming and convivial’ to their English counter parts.

David Andrew, Steyning and Henfield Rotary club, said: “Calais has many exciting and challenging projects and their club meet on Wednesday every week but with an interesting twist. On the first Wednesday of each month they sit down to a full four-course dinner with wine and a full business agenda. The second Wednesday is lighter with aperitifs only and their council members present. The third Wednesday is a four-course dinner, with wine and a light business agenda and with partners and guest speaker and the fourth and fifth Wednesday is aperitif seulement.”

The Calais Risban Club has 31 members and is twinned with Rotary in Dover, with whom they continue to build bridges.
