CHILDREN and teachers at Plaistow Pre-School are enjoying their outdoor playgarden even more this summer following new facilities and equipment purchased as a result of West Sussex County Council’s £26,000 Surestart grant.
The money has enabled the school to create a new outdoor classroom, an all-weather trike runway, wheelchair friendly path, an outdoor welly store and lots of new play equipment and outdoor learning resources. Inside the school, the storage has been doubled to house all new purchases for indoor learning, including: new seating, giant cushions, beanbags for the quiet reading area, books, toys and equipment. Children are particularly enjoying use of the new touch-screen ICT technology with age specific learning software and broadband internet access.
The building works were undertaken by James Lord of local firm, Billingshurst Builders.
Carol Krol, lead practitioner of Plaistow Pre-School said: “We were delighted to receive such a significant grant, the children are thoroughly enjoying the new additions to the school and the enhanced educational value of our playgarden. We have been able to increase our storage space and make way for the new equipment which was also part of the grant. The new pathway is wheelchair friendly and designed so that children can enjoy playing on their trikes.
“We would like to say a big thank you to the council’s Early Childhood Service team for the grant and to Billinghurst Builders for doing such a good job in tight time frames.”
