A consultation into the merger of two Crawley schools has been launched.

Governors at Broadfield East Infant and Juniors hope the schools will become one by September 2016.

The schools, which are part of the TKAT (The Kemnal Academies Trust) family, are both situated in Vulcan Close, Broadfield, and, if the amalgamation goes ahead, will be run by one headteacher with one leadership team and one board of governors.

The consultation will run from today (Friday September 11) until 5pm on Monday October 19.

Two meetings have been scheduled to answer any questions parents may have.

The first will be held at the Junior School on Wednesday (September 16) from 9am-10.15am; the second will be at the Infant School on Thursday October 1 from 6-7.15pm.

An online questionnaire can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/r/Broadfield-East-Amalgamation or via the schools’ websites: www.bfei-tkat.org or www.bfej-tkat.org .

Hard copies are available from either of the schools’ offices.

Explaining why amalgamation was necessary, a school spokesman said: “Our principal aim is to continue to strive for the highest standard of education for our children.

“We believe that the most effective means of achieving this aim is by the amalgamation of the two schools into one school on the existing site.

“There is evidence to show that standards, in other schools that have amalgamated, have continued to rise.”

Jim McGough, chair of governors, said: “We are looking forward to receiving responses about our proposal for the future of the schools. We envisage the amalgamated school being at the heart of the community in Broadfield and therefore welcome responses from any interested parties.”
