Healthy snacks go down so well at Arundel CofE School, they have raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Pupils have been running an early morning tuck shop, selling healthy snacks, for three years.

They always set themselves a high target and this year was no exception.

Mike Matthews, business lead, said: “They set themselves a huge target of a profit of £2,500, which, when it was first discussed last September, seemed a very big ask.

“They worked out that they would have to sell over £6,000 worth of stock to make that sort of profit and - with the total number of children attending the school at 200 - the pressure was on.”

The tuck shop team, from years four and five, set up their early morning tuck shop every day, selling things like water, raisins and fruit snacks.

Mr Matthews said: “Incredibly, three weeks before the end of the summer term, these budding entrepreneurs reached their target.

“The money will be spent on providing school uniforms for their sister school in Sierra Leone in West Africa, where children have to own a uniform to be allowed to go to school.”

Over the last three years, the tuck shop has raised a total of £5,600 for the children of West Africa.

Having reaching their challenging target for Sierra Leone, the ACE tuck shop crew decided to devote the last few weeks of term to raising money to buy a new sports kit for their own school, to be used when they take part in locality sports events.

Mr Matthews said: “By the end of term, they had raised about £220 and with the generous help of one of our wonderful parents, who has offered to make up the difference, the new kit can be ordered.

“So, look out next term for our school in their new trendy sports kit.

“The children would like to thank all of their supporters and look forward to serving them next year.”
