A NEW course is being launched in Worthing to drum up enthusiasm for samba.

Celebration Samba is looking for ‘absolute beginners’ keen to learn the art of samba drumming.

Band master Janice Mitchell said the band had recently returned from Cardiff, where it had taken part in an international samba encontro.

She explained: “We played with 600 other drummers from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the Netherlands, and even Australia.

“We are ready to drum up enthusiasm for samba in our area, in time for the carnival season.”

The four-week course, Absolute Beginners – Samba Drumming, begins on Sunday, at Ivy Arch Studios, Ivy Arch Road, Worthing, and runs from 2pm to 4pm. The cost is £20.

Mrs Mitchell added: “No experience or ability to read music is necessary and we will provide instruments, tuition and earplugs.

To book a place on the course, telephone 01903 786248, or visit the website www.celebrationsamba.co.uk for more information.
