Volunteers and staff in a Horsham street have been left disgusted after a charity shop was broken into, just days before Christmas.
The Cancer Research UK store in East Street was broken into overnight between Monday December 21 and Tuesday December 22.
A glass panel at the front of the shop was smashed and a bowl containing more than £300 was stolen from the front counter.
A volunteer at the shop said: “It is shocking. £300 could be a days care for a cancer patient.
“It such a shame because everyone has been so generous.”
The volunteer added the store had been forced to open later and had missed out on valuable Christmas trade.
Kay Tyler, who owns Mayfair Hair next door to the charity shop, said: “We were here at 7.30am and I noticed there was a bit of glass on the floor.
“We noticed a board had been put up on the front door but we didn’t think much of it.
“I just think it is really sad people have to take to that just to steal money. It is the lowest of the low.
“It is sad, especially just before Christmas.”
Her colleague Jo Edwards added: “I think it’s disgraceful. It is disgusting, stealing from a charity shop.”
