The compassion of a nurse from Mid Sussex has earned her top recognition.
Debbie Bateup was among NHS staff celebrating success at the Proud to Care Sussex Nursing Awards held at the American Express Community Stadium at Falmer .
Debbie lead nurse for intermediate care in Mid Sussex, who lives in Burgess Hill, won the individual award in the Compassion category and our Shoreham community nursing team, were joint winners for the team award in the Public’s Choice category.
The Proud to Care ceremony recognised individual and team awards for the best care delivered in hospitals, the community, primary care and nursing homes across Sussex.
Debbie said: ““I feel immense pride and honour at winning this award.
“This award recognises all my years of service and I also want to accept this award on behalf of my team who are dedicated, supportive and committed in providing excellent patient care in the community.”
Evelyn Prodger, matron at the Horizon Unit at Horsham Hospital and Debbie’s manager, said: “I’m delighted that Debbie has been recognised in this way. She is a highly skilled and experienced nurse who shows great compassion and kindness whilst managing a highly efficient service for our patients.”
The Shoreham community nursing team was recognised for its excellent team work and commitment in championing the needs of their patients. The 20-strong team work in the community to support patients with complex needs and long-term illnesses. They were praised for their ability to build strong working relationships with other healthcare providers to ensure the best possible care for their patients.

“Debbie’s passion for patient care and the community nursing team’s excellent team work and commitment really shone through and impressed the judges. I’m very proud of them all.”
