Yatin Bhatt said: “Chichester Vedic Society had a good day of Durga Pooja. This was highly responded to by the local Hindu community and greatly successful.”

He said having the mayors attend had been ‘good motivation for the small Hindu community residing in Chichester’.

“We had a great gathering with nice lunch of Indian curry provided and sponsored by Thyme and Chillies Restaurant,” he added.

“Other attractions for the day was a live orchestra for the Garbha dance. The south Indian dance was highly popular and was a dedicated performance by young girls aged ten to 15 years.

“Clay making of god Ganesha was an interesting workshop. A professional priest came to perform the Hindu cultural rituals and so on.

“Organisers wish to thank all for attending the event and making it a successful and memorable day.”

Chichester Vedic Society is a Hindu community-formed society for the community in Chichester and the event was staged with the help of volunteers.
