Cyclist found lying in road airlifted to hospital with '˜life-threatening injuries'

Emergency services were called this morning (February 22) to a man lying in a road with life-threatening injuries to his head and chest.

The 68-year-old man was found in Mill Road, Burgess Hill at around 5.45am and appeared to have come off his bike, although police said the exact circumstances are currently unknown.

The cyclist had sustained life-threatening injuries to his head and chest and was flown to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, a police spokesman confirmed.

Two road ambulances and an air ambulance attended the incident.

A spokesman from South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) said: “The man was given advanced life support at the scene and was then taken by road ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for further treatment.”
