Police are warning people in the Hassocks area about a series of shed break-ins.

Derek Middlehurst who lives in Newlands Close off Ockley Lane suffered a break-in last night (May 1).

A shed at the bottom of his garden was broken into sometime between 10.45pm and 6am and a crowbar from the shed was used to force a padlock in a second shed where a valuable mountain bike was stolen.

A near neighbour also has his shed broken into.

Mr Middlehurst said: “The worrying thing is, everything was padlocked with security lights. There are two dogs next door but we didn’t hear anything.

“A Rockhopper mountain bike worth about £1,400 was taken even though the back wheel was padlocked to the frame.”

A Husqvarna chain store, worth about £400 was also stolen.
