Police appeal over Crawley assault

POLICE are appealing for any witnesses to an assault that occurred near the car park in Broadfield Barton, in Broadfield, Crawley at approximately 3.15pm on Saturday February 11.

Two men attacked a Morrison’s store security guard who challenged them over the alleged theft of five bottles of whiskey from the store.

They punched and kicked him before running away.

The 38-year old security guard was shaken and sustained a small cut to his neck but did not seek medical treatment.

The bottles were found nearby.

Police received a call from a man who witnessed the assault and are appealing for this man to come forward again.

A 35-year old local man was later arrested on suspicion of assault and battery, and attempted theft, and was released on police bail until 13 March while enquiries continue.

PC Ken Luke said; “That caller, and anyone else with information about this attack is asked to contact us via 101 quoting serial 0920 of 11/02.”
