Police are appealing to anyone who saw a man running near the level crossing on Old Worthing Road, East Preston on Monday July 9.

At 4.45pm a man was disturbed at a house in Crossways, Old Worthing Road and was seen running away out of Crossways and turning left onto Old Worthing Road away from the level crossing.

A small gold heart shaped pendant and a man’s Ingersol gold face watch with a leather strap were stolen.

The suspect is described as white, 6ft, skinny build wearing a blue jacket, scruffy jeans and a woolly hat pulled down over his ears.

Detective constable Jon Stadius said: “It was a busy time of day and the level crossing barriers were down so there was a lot of traffic building who might have seen this man. The pendant which was stolen had sentimental value to the victim. If you have witnessed this incident or have any information as to the whereabouts of the stolen property please contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1344 - 09/07/12 or alternatively call anomalously crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
