A man has been charged with breaking into more than 50 homes across the south, including in Storrington.

Albert James, 56, of Mill Pond Crescent, Chichester, is accused of breaking into 27 homes in West Sussex in six weeks, between October 26 and December 12.

Police said he has also been charged with a further 24 burglaries in Hampshire.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “The crimes happened after it had begun to go dark but before the victims had returned home for the night. Jewellery was stolen from the homes.”

James was arrested after a joint investigation by detectives from Sussex and Hampshire. He is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on March 12.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a burglary in Livingstone Road, Horsham, on 29 December, and has been released on bail until February 2.
