Late night robbery in Worthing

Police are seeking witnesses to a late night street robbery in Worthing.

Just after 10pm on Sunday (December 23) a 22-year old man was walking to a friend’s house in Bashford Lane, near the junction with Sackville Road, when he was attacked by a man who who punched him a number of times to the ground and stole his wallet.

After the man had run off, the victim became aware that he had sustained superficial cuts through his clothing to his arm and hip, for which he did not require hospital treatment. He was also very shaken by the attack.

Police believe the injuries were caused by a knife, and Detective Constable Lindsey Van Buiten said: “This injuries could have been far worse but for the layers of clothing the victim was wearing.

“It was a nasty attack and we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area on Sunday evening and saw anything suspicious. The suspect is described as wearing a baseball cap with a ‘New Era’ motif on the front, a dark coloured hoody with a scarf over his face, and grey tracksuit bottoms.
