Residents are being warned about scammers pretending to be from Horsham District Council (HDC).
Sussex Police and HDC are advising householders not to be taken in by anyone attempting to give them a ‘fine’ for contamination in their recycling bin.
A statement from HDC, sent to the County Times via Horsham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Please be aware that scammers are contacting residents about fines for contaminated recycling pretending to be from HDC - we do not do this.
“If you are approached or contacted about this please contact Sussex Police on 101.”
