POLICE are appealing for witnesses after burglars broke into Archy’s Supermarket in Crawley and then set it on fire.
The shop in Ewhurst Road was targeted around 4am on Thursday 16 February. West Sussex Fire and Rescue were called to the premises after a report of a fire, which was put out.
Police discovered that intruders had broken in through the garage doors at the back of the shop and had tried to break open a free standing cash machine inside the supermarket. Cigarettes, cash from the till and alcohol were stolen before they set fire to items in the store.
It is believed the suspects used a vehicle as oxygen cylinders were left at the shop.
