A JOINT road safety awareness campaign held last week in Fishbourne and Southbourne saw 34 drivers stopped for committing various offences.

Operation Airwalk is an initiative between Sussex Police and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

Drivers who are travelling at excess speed, using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts are targeted and given the opportunity to watch an educational video highlighting the dangers of their offences as an alternative to a fixed penalty notice.

The operation was held on Thursday last week (February 2) in Southbourne and Fishbourne and all 34 motorists who were stopped chose to watch the video.

PC Andy Rosier said: “Anti-social driving is a priority for both the Fishbourne and Southbourne Neighbourhood Management Panels and we receive a lot of complaints from the local community regarding these issues. We all have a responsibility to keep our roads safe and being aware of local speed limits is a large part of this. We are hoping to carry out more of these operations in the near future.”
