THE CHAIRMAN of Horsham District Council Mrs Claire Vickers this evening said how sorry she was to hear of the County Times fire.

In an e-mail to the Editor In Chief Gary Shipton, she said on behalf of herself and the district council: “Like you I applaud the emergency services for their prompt action and the fact that no-one was injured.

“I sincerely hope repairs will be swift and delighted to hear you say it will be business as usual.”

Mrs Vickers had been attending the County Times’ supported Hall and Woodhouse Community Chest Awards at the Olive Branch in Horsham.

When news of the fire came through, Mr Shipton and his colleagues raced from the awards presentation back to the County Times offices.

The awards evening saw £15,000 given to good causes across West Sussex by brewers Hall and Woodhouse.

Applications for grant aid are publicised by the County Times and its sister titles and Spirit FM.
