Taking home a County Times Community Award last year was ‘like winning an Oscar’, according to the winner of the Best Fundraiser award.
Kay Tyler could not hide her delight as she was presented the award on stage at the ceremony at the Capitol last November.
The excitable proprietor of Mayfair Hair salon on East Street, Horsham, was joined by her staff as she accepted the award.
“It was like winning an Oscar,” Kay said after the ceremony, “very exciting.”
Mayfair Hair have held a number of fundraising events in attempts to raise money for the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee School in Comptons Lane, Horsham.
Kay has continued to support the school, which caters for young people with disabilities, this year.
She received a large number of nominations as many people celebrated her passion for helping the local charity.
The County Times has opened nominations for this year’s Community Awards in attempts to find the most community-minded people from across the Horsham district.

Last year’s event saw laughter, joy and tears as dozens of community champions were celebrated, while last month’s inaugural County Times Youth Awards honoured some of the Horsham district’s wonderful young people.
This year’s Community Awards, to be held on Tuesday November 18, promises to continue with the heartwarming community theme.
