VIDEO: Swing band and mayors as reception raises thousands
Town Scouts will benefit to the tune of £2,200 following the Mayor’s civic event at the weekend.
Some 200 guests attended the reception at The Hawth on Saturday (January 26) and raised £900 through the sale of raffle tickets and a further £1,300 with the auction of a box seat at Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground.
The Mayor of Crawley, Cllr Keith Blake, described the amount raised as “very satisfying and more than I had hoped for”.
He happily posed for photos with previous town mayors, including Bert Crane and Jim Smith, who were recently made honorary aldermen of the borough.
All money will go to the Mayor’s charity, the Crawley District Scouts, to build an adventure base at the Stanford scout camp.
During the evening, guests were entertained by the Holy Trinity School Swing Band.
