VIDEO: 3,000 people in Chichester for Archbishop’s visit

Waiting for Video...

THOUSANDS turned out in the sunshine to see Archbishop Justin Welby visit Chichester today (March 19).

From 11.45am he walked from the Market Cross to the cathedral along West Street, stopping regularly to speak to people.

The cathedral has estimated around 3,000 people were present today to see the leader of the Church of England.

The Most Rev Welby said visiting the city and cathedral was a ‘real treat’ as he was not too familiar with the area.

He will be in the cathedral for the rest of the afternoon, until around 6pm, during which time people can speak with him, and join in the cathedral’s prayer sessions.

For more comments from the Most Rev Welby on Chichester, and for pictures, see Thursday’s Observer (March 21).
