Despite difficult market conditions Royal Sun Alliance’s Personal Lines business, which is mostly based in Horsham, recorded a strong profit of £70m in 2012.

Announcing its full-year results on Wednesday, Mark Christer, managing director of RSA UK Personal Lines, based in Chart Way, was pleased with 2012’s figures, despite 36,000 weather claims, 12,000 more than 2011.

“As of the end of December we had settled 92 per cent, with people back in their homes, repairs had been done, and the goods replaced, so that’s a phenomenal success,” he said.

“The market conditions are incredibly tough. It’s incredibly competitive.

“My team here and the teams at our other locations have performed really well to grow and make money in these conditions, and to deliver that level of customer satisfaction is a great result and I’m really proud of what the teams have done.”

His segment of the business announced a profit of £70m for 2012, with their home business growing by three per cent, and their pet business by 18 per cent.

They are now the number one cat and dog insurer in the UK, with around 30 per cent market penetration rate.

Mr Christer, who lives in Barns Green, pinpointed strong customer satisfaction as the linchpin behind their success in 2012.

He said that approach was making their business plan robust and sustainable.
