The £2,260 raised was presented to the charity, which is based just over the road at The Old School House, last week.

Team manager Sue Smith, who headed up the in-store fundraising, said: “Every year we like to support a local charity. Last year, Adur Special Needs Project contacted us just at the time we were choosing who to help in 2015, so it seemed a logical choice to get involved with the project as they provide valuable support to local families with disabled and special needs children.”

Maggie Ford, a member of the customer team who was responsible for the delivery of the fundraising activities throughout the year, said: “I love getting involved with fundraising.

“Support like this can make a real difference to small charities and fundraising brings the whole community together.”

The charity has helped change the lives of children and young people with special needs across Shoreham, Lancing and Worthing.

Chairman Valerie Trevor, who received the cheque, said: “We are enourmously touched by The Co-op’s generosity.

“It’s amazing how much money can be raised through simple activties such as cake sales and tombolas.

“We will be putting the money to very good use by continuing to provide exciting and stimulating play schemes for our members.”
