Still time to get on your bike for Haywards Heath ride

Thank you party for sponsors and volunteers of the 2013 greater Haywards Heath Bike Ride

With only 55 days to go until The Greater Haywards Heath Bike Ride an early thank you party was held for the sponsors and volunteers.

The ride will take place on April 21 and includes four different routes from the family friendly Sergison Green to the more challenging Wiggins Way.

Pledging their support this year are 1st Central Insurance and The Orchards, who were sponsors last year, plus Nuffield Health, Aria Assistance, Masters and Son of Lindfield and 3CS Cleaning Services.

Organiser Rod Clarke said: “We’re so truly grateful to all our sponsors for their generosity; we couldn’t achieve all we have without them. Our plans to buy defibrillators for Haywards Heath will have every chance of success with their backing.”

The community has also got behind the bike ride, with dozens of volunteers coming forward to help out on the day as marshals and registrars.

Coordinator Mike Oliver said: “Marshals are essential for the safety of the riders and the local community along the route. I’m really grateful that the response has been so good that we can have all the key points manned. But more volunteers would still be welcome – many hands make light work.”

Registrar commander in chief Sharon Scott added: “And, with a hoped-for field of 1,500 riders, some of whom, don’t forget, won’t speak English, the registration helpers are key. Luckily, we’re holding a pre-registration in The Orchards, courtesy of Nicola Bird, on the Saturday before – but we’re all bringing along our French and German phrase books in case.”

Taking part in this year’s race will be teams from Haywards Heath twinned towns Bondues in France and Traunstein in Germany.

“Everything is set fair for 21st April,” said Rod. “Riders are signing up thick and fast and there is still plenty of time to register to take part. Now all we need is some fabulous weather and it will be another fantastic day.”

Money raised from the event will go towards buying defibrillators for the town. Riders can also raise money for their own charities. The race will be started by the UK’s number one discus thrower Jade Nicholls.
