Pupils at a Shoreham school learned all about the RNLI during a day of fund-raising for the charity.

Children at St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, in Sullington Way, dressed in either the colours of the sea or lifeboats on Friday and took in £1 each for the privilege.

Andy Morgan, from the RNLI’s education team, visited the school for morning assembly to give the children a basic introduction to the work of lifeboatmen.

He said a few of the children had connections to Shoreham RNLI and most of the children would have seen the lifeboat house or the lifeboats in action.

The children, aged from four to 11, were also told of the dangers of inflatables and taught key safety measures to stay safe on the beach.

Acting head Katharine Hikmet said the children had responded well and had asked lots of questions.

Pupils on the school council had chosen the theme for the fund-raising day, she added.

The school thanked Andy for his brilliant assembly and announced a total of £202 had been raised during the RNLI day.
