BEATING the bullies has put a smile on the face of youngsters in Shoreham.

The result was a £348 cheque for charity, presented at Shoreham Academy on Monday.

The money was raised for Bullies Out during the bi-annual SMILE week, as well as from CD sales.

Events were held in conjunction with nearby primary schools last term, to mark anti-bullying week. Academy students toured their Forum Theatre roadshow, to highlight the issues surrounding bullying and look at solutions.

Teachers and parents attended a child exploitation and online protection seminar, while academy students were given a similar message in assemblies.

The highlight of the week was the SMILE concert, blasting out a series of anti-bullying anthems, with the help of Shoreham Allstars, to spread the message that bullying will not be tolerated.

Spokesperson Donna Churchill said: “The evening was punctuated with a rousing performance of a self-composed song by year-eight Shoreham Academy student Daniel Walford. The chorus of the song was sung by some of the primary school pupils and it was a spine-tingling moment.”

The song, supported by Bullies Out, has been put on a CD, with all profits going to the charity.
