Shining a light on the benefits of solar energy
Michael Yeoman
School-children have been soaking up the benefits of solar energy thanks to an enterprising entrepreneur.
Hurstpierpoint-based solar supplier South Downs Solar (www.southdownssolar.co.uk) tours primary schools in Sussex and carries out ‘Eco Awareness’ assemblies to demonstrate to children in a practical way how solar energy can be harnessed.
In an assembly at St Peter’s C of E Primary School in Ardingly, pupils aged four to 11 were given a hands-on demonstration of solar power and how we can reduce our energy bills.
South Downs Solar director Michael Yeoman (pictured) said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the visit to St Peter’s, they are lovely children and were very receptive to the solar message.”
St Peter’s headteacher Catherine Pearson, added: “We have an active Eco Council in our school and have achieved our Green Flag award, so ‘being green’ is very much part of our ethos.”
